So basically the fields outside the manor, some kind of mines/quarry, a fishing port, and some miscellaneous smell. The port might be useful later for escaping to the Black Marshes, but it would be good to know if there's a market nearby.

I vote go south to the weak blend of smells.

A blend of smells you say? That might be a market full of smelly people who can read the paper! I say lower path

You pick the treeful path, and after an uneventful trek over many gnarled roots, you find yourself in front of a vast, open field full of THINGS to look and mess with.

appreciate their wool and determine if any are milkable

You appreciate the fur of these fluffy crawling men by hugging them for a bit and also confirm they can produce two types of milk depending on breast type.

The things look like livestock, so maybe the farmer has food like the drawings on your paper, or knows where to get them. Show him the paper and say hello in Argonian so he doesn't try to waste time speaking some other language at you.

forsooth, TWO gentlemen who could help. show the paper to the one with outstretched arms, he looks authoritative. if that fails, the other guy with the hat.

You attempt to strike up a conversation with the ugly man wearing a big hat. Your introduction seems to be going fine until he finally notices you and starts to scream and dance around wildly.
He then runs toward his hut and loudly shuts the door behind him.

Well... You decide to converse with the brown man wearing rags instead, even going so far as to show him the paper.
However, he is clearly not interested in conversation and continues to lightly sway with the wind, aloofly.

He's admittedly pretty cool.
